Meet the Team

All of our Dentists and Hygienists are fully qualified and practice under strict guidelines. Each Dentist and Hygienist continues their professional development by attending regular courses or seminars, keeping up to date with new materials, working methods and equipment.

Each Dentist has their own nurse, they are there to assist the dentist with your treatment and to help put you at ease about any possible apprehension you may have whilst in surgery.

At Durban Dental Centre, we believe that first impressions count. Our team on reception are efficient and friendly and play a large part in the smooth running of the day. They are there to help you feel comfortable and happy in what can sometimes be a daunting environment.

CHRIS WOOD – Retired PRACTICE OWNER

Dental Qualifications: LDS RCS 1978 DGDP(UK) 1996

GDC Number: 51814

Chris qualified from Guys Hospital London in 1978, and has continued with post graduation courses in orthodontics and Implants.

Although his clinical experience is wide, Chris has a special interest in holistic dentistry believing that the body is one unit and how you treat one aspect of that unit has an effect on other aspects he also has 35 years of experience treating orthodontic cases and placing dental implants.

At home, Chris likes spending time with his family and cats, cycling, walking, gardening and tinkering with cars (or anything mechanical!) Chris is also a keen pilot and spends most weekends in the air.

DR AHMET BILGINER

Dental Qualifications: BDS (London) 1996

GDC Number: 72676

Ahmet qualified from the Royal London Hospital Dental School in Whitechapel in 1996 and has worked as a general practitioner ever since.

He grew up in London and moved to East Sussex  joining Durban Dental Centre in 2008.

Ahmet is highly experienced in cosmetic dentistry as well as facial aesthetic treatments. He has a post graduate certificate in aesthetic dentistry awarded from Kings College London in 2014. In 2005 Ahmet carried out Implant training in Wimpole Street London.

He is an experienced provider of Inman aligner orthodontics and recently awarded platinum provider status for smilelign invisible orthodontic braces.

Ahmet carries out all general dental treatments, including safe amalgam removal, invisible orthodontics, implants, cosmetic smile enhancements, wrinkle reduction and dermal fillers.

In his spare time Ahmet likes to go travelling with his family, read autobiographies and walk his dog.

DR MURSHID SALMAN

Dental Qualifications: DDS 2003

Dr. Murshid Salman qualified in 2003 as a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS). He then went on to follow his passion in implant dentistry by studying at the Royal College of Surgeons to seek the highest levels of training in the country within that field. He has trained alongside dentists internationally and has learned bone grafting and advanced techniques in implant dentistry.

Dr. Salman has also attained a Level 7 (masters level) qualification in injectable facial aesthetics. He enjoys performing antiwrinkle injectables and filler treatments alongside other skin rejuvenation treatments. He is also a teacher and mentor at Harley Academy in London for facial aesthetics.

Dr. Salman believes in a holistic approach to dentistry and believes that improving a patient’s confidence and smile will reflect on their general well being. He treats every patient individually according to their specific needs and has a very caring and respectful attitude.

In his spare time, Dr. Salman enjoys spending time with his family, going to the gym, reading and travelling.

DR ASHLEY SIM

Dental Qualifications: BSc (Hons), BDS (London), PGCert,  MFDS RCS (Ed), MSc, PG Cert in Imp Dent

Ashley grew up in Kent and graduated from the University of Liverpool with a degree in Physiology. He graduated with one of only three awards given to his cohort and met the conditions to study dentistry at King’s College London (Guy’s King’s and St Thomas). He graduated from King’s in 2014 and after graduation won the prestigious ‘John McLean’ award from the British Dental Association for a multi-disciplinary case. He also went on to win the case of the year award for central Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery.

Ashley achieved an MSc in Primary Dental Care (General practice) and is currently concluding a Masters in Clinical Dentistry (MClinDent) degree developing a special interest in root canal in order to offer his patients a high level of competency in this skill. He gained the membership diploma from The Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (MFDS) in 2016 along with being shortlisted as a finalist as Young Dentist of the Year in 2016 at both the Private Dentistry and Dentistry Awards and in 2017 Ashley was selected for the ‘Fast tract 4’ award by ‘Dentistry’ magazine.

Ashley is particularly interested in functional aesthetics (the harmony between form and function) and has completed his core studies with The Dawson Academy from America – one of the world’s top teaching institutes for advanced restorative dentistry.  Ashley has also achieved a Post Graduate certificate in Implant dentistry to enable him to offer comprehensive care to his patients.

Ashley has carried out research with The National Migraine Centre (UK) looking at the relationship between teeth grinding (parafunction) and migraine (oral facial pain) and has lectured at the British Dental Association headquarters in London. Ashley also has a research interest in the latest root canal instruments. Ashley is very caring and will take time to explain all aspects of treatment that may be needed he is very gentle and has a great rapport with children.

ANDA PONSFORD - HYGIENIST

Dental Qualifications: Dip Dent Hygiene Sweden 1997

GDC Number: 5232

Anda graduated from Gothenburg University, Sweden in 1997. She came to the UK in 1998, working as a Civilian Hygienist for the Ministry of Defence before moving to Kent and working for private dental practices from 2000. Anda has been with Durban Dental Centre for over 15 years

Anda likes to ensure patients of all ages are put at ease whilst building trust and rapport during appointments. Anda promotes proactive oral hygiene to patients and is a firm advocate of preventative care and treatment.

When not in the surgery, Anda spends time at home with her two young girls and in her spare time enjoys playing golf, keeping fit and skiing.

SHARON MARCHESI - HYGIENIST

Dental Qualifications: CEB Dip Dent Hygiene 1997

GDC Number: 5176

Sharon qualified at Guy’s Dental School in 1997 and has been working at Durban Dental Centre for over 15 years.

Sharon has a keen interest in Preventative Dentistry and will always tailor her oral health programmes to meet her patient’s needs and will ensure daily dental hygiene advice is provided.

Sharon attends many courses to keep up-to-date with the latest treatments and products available.

When not working, Sharon is kept very busy with her two active boys. She also enjoys keeping fit, watching rugby and cricket and getting together with family and friends.

KATE BLUNDELL - HYGIENIST

Dental Qualifications:Dip Dent Hygiene London 2006

Having already attained a degree in fashion marketing from Nottingham Trent University, Kate began her career in dentistry as a dental nurse at Durban Dental Centre.

Taking the step up to dental hygiene, she qualified from Guy’s School of Dental Hygiene in 2006

Kate ensures that she puts our patients at ease so that they enjoy their experience in her care, Her expertise is in promoting oral health and giving you the skills and the confidence to make a real difference to the health of your mouth.

The majority of Kate’s spare time is taken up with her husband and three young children.

CHRISTINE LACEY - HYGIENIST

Dental Qualification: CEB Cert in Dental Hygiene 1979

GDC Number: 1907

Christine was considering a career in various medical areas but was quite suddenly taken by teeth! Getting more involved, she was shocked by how often teeth were lost through gum-related problems.

Inspired to do something about this, she embarked on a Dental Hygiene course at Guy’s Hospital, London and qualified in 1979.

Christine has been working at Durban Dental Centre for over 30 years and attends many courses to keep up-to-date with current regulations and trends.

Away from Durban she enjoys being out in the fresh air walking her dog and spending time with family.
